Scotia Park: Under mild and misty conditions it was Strathroy visiting Scottish for a Saturday afternoon First Division game.

With this match it was Scottish coming off a one-goal loss to the upstart Middlesex squad in the season opener a week earlier.  For Strathroy, it was their first game of the regular season.  In the first twenty minutes of the match it was almost all Scottish, as they drove into their offensive zone time and time again, yet only to be repulsed by Strathroy defenders on each and every occasion.  Scottish had little trouble moving the ball successfully up field, however their strikers appeared somewhat frustrated by Strathroy's speedy defensive corps.  It wasn't until at least the 20 minute mark that Strathoy mustered any offensive threat of their own with a couple of hard shots taken from outside the box that somehow did not find the mark.  Spirited play through the midfield areas was the norm for the remainder of the half, with Scottish clearly out-chancing Strathroy in opportunities to score.  Nevertheless, the first half ended nil-nil.

Scottish appeared invigorated after the break, and came out an even more determined group, moving the action steadily towards the Strathroy goal.  Scottish earned a corner kick at approximately 50 minutes and capitalized on the opportunity.  A well placed kick was driven into the centre of the inner box area, in front of the goal where it found the awaiting forehead of # 22 Ian Cunningham, who first deflected an attempt off the crossbar then hit the ball again into the centre top area of the net from within a crowd of players.  Mr. Cunningham had a very strong game and may very well have been the difference in light of the ultimate outcome.  Scottish did not let up after this point in play.  They continued to pressure and earned another corner kick from the same side at 55 minutes.

Another excellent kick was taken that this time found # 9, Nick Berry, placed perfectly for a strong header that quickly found the mesh.  With this goal it would be 2-0 favouring Scottish.  Subsequent to this, Scottish took on a more defensive stance, and kept only one striker up field for most the time.  More back and forth play ensued although it was of an increased intensity as compared to that of the first half, and featured numerous yellow cards.  Strathroy continued to make attempts at penetrating the Scottish zone, yet they were repeatedly driven back by the able Scottish midfielders.  At 79 minutes however, in a moment of perhaps complacency or possibly flat-footedness, Strathroy's #12, Sam San found his way all alone directly in front of the Scottish keeper.  He was passed the ball and with an accurate header, he placed the ball into the bottom-left corner for the goal to make it 2-1.  After this point Strathroy did put up somewhat of a fight to tie the game, however the Scottish forward ball movement remained steady.  At 90 minutes the game would end 2-1 Scottish.  JHS
